The Nordic Walking poles are specific because they do not have a loop strap but a glove. The glove enables a specific movement of the arm in Nordic walking: the walker sticks the pole approximately 30 % before the body and pushes the pole backwards until the arm is almost straight. At that moment, the grasp of the pole is released and with a swing the walker gets the pole again in front of the body where it is stuck to the ground. The glove guarantees that the pole will not fly away when the grasp is released.

I recommend buying poles where the length is fixed through a locking mechanism on the outside of shaft of the pole and not ones where the locking mechanism is inside the shaft, and one must fix the length through rotating the inner smaller part of the shaft.
The reason is that the correct Nordic Walking poles have a bent metal tip instead of a regular rounded tip which enables the correct sticking of the pole even on a harder surface. The bending is facing backward, i.e., the top of the metal tip is facing forward. The low-profile basket above the tip of the pole shows the correct direction of the tip.
This is difficult to achieve in the “rotating” poles, because one rarely fix the inner part of the shaft in the correct position of the bent metal tip.
